The last time the original Rascals played a full concert was 1970. [They did play a few songs at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame May 6, 1997.]

This New York show, at Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Grill, was a charity event for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund, where Stevie Van Zandt and his wife, Maureen, were also being honoured. The Kristen Carr Fund is named after the daughter of Bruce Springsteen manager Barbara Carr and music writer Dave Marsh, who passed away from Sarcoma in 1993. The fund benefits the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Rascals guitarist Gene Cornish said: “I speak on behalf of the band when I say all the money offers in the world could not entice the Rascals to reunite but four phone calls from Stevie and without hesitation we enthusiastically and immediately agreed to both support this wonderful cause and honor Stevie and Maureen.” After all these years, Cornish still knows how to tug your heart strings.
